STREET – Simulating Transportation for Realistic Engineering Education and Training

The following web-based simulation modules to improve instruction in the Introduction to Transportation Engineering course that is a standard part of undergraduate civil engineering programs. The modules are also suitable for upper-division transportation courses and cover fundamental topics in transportation engineering such as travel demand modelling, geometric design, traffic flow, and traffic signal control.

Modules

ABODE – Agent Based Model of Origin Destination Estimation

The agent based model matches origins and destinations using employment search methods at the individual level.

ADAM – Agent-based Demand and Assignment Model

The core algorithm is an agent-based model, which simulates travel patterns on a network based on microscopic decision-making by each traveler.

ANGIE – Agent-based Network Growth model with Incremental Evolution

The Agent-based Network Growth model with Incremental Evolution (ANGIE) models the growth of road networks in several scenarios such as road networks in an artificial grid-like city and the Minneapolis Downtown Skyway network.

CLUSTER – Clustered Locations of Urban Services, Transport, and Economic Resources

This model is an agent-based model of retail location choice on supply chains consisting of consumers, retailers, and suppliers.

OASIS – Online Application for Signalized Intersection Simulation

The actuated signal control module was developed to help users better understand the control logic of an actuated signal controller.

ROAD – Roadway Online Application for Design

This online roadway geometry design tool was developed to assist students conducting the geometric design of roadways on computer screen using a contour map in the background as reference.

SAND – Simulation and Analysis of Network Design

Simulator and Analyst of Network Design (SAND) was developed to enhance the understanding of transportation planning and network design in a classroom environment.

SONG – Simulation of Network Growth

SONG is a simulator designed for simulating the process of transportation network growth.

MARC – Multi-Agent Route Choice Game

The Multi-Agent Route Choice (MARC) game is designed to engage students in the process of making route choice, so that they can visualize how traffic gradually reaches a user equilibrium (UE).
